The prevalence of allergies has increased substantially during the last two to three decades in more than 20 countries around the world. The most common types of allergic diseases are eczema, rhinitis and asthma. Sanfujiu is a method of applying Chinese herbal medicine paste onto selected acupoints during the 3 hottest days of the summer. Thus, type of treatment can help to prevent allergic attacks into the winter months. Sanfujiu has been increasingly used in Chinese Medicine clinics in Taiwan during the past few years. A few studies have described the effects of Sanfujiu in treating allergic rhinitis. However, no reports on definite clinical efficacy and the mechanism of immunomodulation of Sanfujiu in allergic disease have been published. The objectives of this study were to adopt the RCT model for evaluating the clinical efficacy and the mechanism of immunomodulation of Sanfujiu in treating Allergic Rhinitis and Bronchial Asthma.
