Cinnamomum kotoense Kanehiraet Sasaki is one of the indigenous and the peculiar hardwood species to Taiwan. There were many studies which investigated the bioactivity of the leaf essential oils from C. osmophloeum, and had been published in the important academic journals in recently. It was presented that developing the essential oils from the plant would have the highly potential. According these published studies, the essential oils from C. osmophloeum indeed has a good antifungi, antimitic, antitermites, antibacterial and antimosquito larva bioactivities. It was undoubtedly that the essential oils of leaf and wood from C. osmophloeum have highly developed potential but we were not familiar to C. kotoense in related studies. The aim of this study is evaluated the bioactivities of the essential oils and extracts of leaf and wood from C. osmophloeum which including the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antitumor bioactivities. In the meanwhile the composition of these essential oils would be analyzed. This project will extract the essential oil and extracts of leaf and wood from C. osmophloeum by water distillation method and solvents following assay their bioactivities and employ the GC-MS for their composition analysis. In addition, we will purify the major compounds from the essential oil and extracts by liquid chromatoraphy, after that the bioactivities of these major compounds were analyzed. When this study is finished successfully, it is comprehended that bioactive characteristics of essential oils and extracts of leaf and wood from C. osmophloeum. Not only enlarge the ranges of forestry products utilization but developing these bioactive materials in medicines.
