Using PFGE, a well-developed molecular biology method, to identify bacteria subtypes and confirm major prevalent strains has been applied widely in epidemiological investigation and research. Furthermore, it is easy for Salmonella to change their antibiotic resistance profiles by obtaining plasmids carrying antibiotic resistance genes. Thus, by analyzing plasmid profiles, the sources of antibiotic resistance gene can be determined. We will investigate the antibiotic resistance profiles and mechanisms of Salmonella-human and -animal isolates, in order to understand the Salmonella population response to antibiotics and further estimate the possibility of exchange antibiotic genes between human and animals.
