After accreditation by Taiwan Medical Accreditation Council (TMLC), the curriculum structures in Taiwan are now closer to those in US. The Journal of the American Medical Association published an issue on medical education on September 1, 2004. Using the 2003-2004 statistical data, the current educational programs in US medical school were thoroughly reviewed. Thus, this article summarized some issues relevant to medical education in Taiwan. The medical school and student, educational programs, educational resources, and student evaluation were focused on. There are both considerable similarities and many differences that can be pointed out between the systems in Taiwan and the US. The successful characteristics of US medical education models are worth studying in depth. The impact of economic enterprise on higher education, especially the teaching mission in medical schools, is also worthy of significant note. (Full text in Chinese)
