A Study of the Relationship between the Chinese and Western Medicine and Outcome of Diabetic Care in Patients Admitted to Diabetes Mellitus Quality Improvement Program

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus quilty improvement program was launched in 2001, incorporating all patients into the program which maganged the medical care of patients. The purpose of this study is to discuss the factors that patients chose the intergrated Chinese and Western medicine, the frequently used prescriptions, and the outcome of the patients while used different medical care. The subjects were admitted to the program from 2001 to 2003. The baseline of their data was set up when they joined the program, while the endpoint of theirs was recorded after one-year period. The research fram, discussing the relationship between the Chinese and Western medicine and the outcome, is on the basis of the model of health behavior invented by R. M. Andersen. The findings of this paper shows the relationship between the HbA1c and the Chinese and Western medicne is not significant; however, patients who used Zhu-Ye Shi-Gao Tang got the larger decline of HbA1c compared with others, while patients using Bai-Hu Tang got the lower decline of HbA1c.
