Asarum heterotropoides, is a traditional Chinese annual herb. It is said could dispels cold and wind, warms the lungs to resolve accumulated fluids. In this study, we found methanolic extract of Asarum heterotropoides could inhibited growth of human cervical HeLa cells. So we investigated the effects of Asarum heterotropoides on the cytotoxicity, cell cycle assay, and apoptosis assay in human cervical cancer cell. Asarum heterotropoides treated HeLa cells displayed cell cycle arrest in G2/M phase, subsequently, to apoptotic cell death. According to the results obtained, EtOAc appears to possess most anticarcinogenic properties; these results suggest that the effect of EtOAc arrest cells at G2/M phase and induced apoptosis in Human cervical HeLa cancer cells.
