Quercetin and its glycoside, rutin are flavonoids widely distributed in natural plants. They possess numerous pharmacological activities, such as free radical scavenging, TNF-alpha inhibition and anticarcinogenic effects, in addition, quercetin was reported phase Ⅱ clinical trial. In recent years, the biological fates of flavonoid glycosides are recognized that glycosides are hydrolyzed by intestinal and/or bacterial enzymes to corresponding absorbable aglycones. Many studies were dressed on the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of quercetin and rutin. However, the information concerning the individual pharmacokinetics of their conjugated metabolites still remains limited. In this study, we attempted to characterize and compare the intravenous and oral metabolic pharmacokinetics of quercetin as well as the oral metabolic pharmacokinetics of rutin in rats.?
