The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aqueonus extracts of phellinus linteus (AEPL)on liver peroxdation and liver fibrogensis in carbon terachloride-induced fibrosis. CCl4(20%`, 0.2ml/100g body weight, p.o.) was given twice a week for eight weeks. AEPL was given daily to rats at a dose of 200, 600mg/kg by gavage through the whole experimental period. CCl4 caused liver injuies in the vehicle control group, fearuring increase in liver hydroxyproline and lipid peroxidation, and spleen weight, decrease in serum albumin and liver total ptotrin. AEPL supplementation reduced the liver lipid peroxidation and collagen; prevented the reduction of serum albumin and liver total protein; reduced spleen weight. Histopathological examination showed improvement of liver structure in AEPL-treated rats. Our results demonstrated the AEPL protects the liver from CCl4 injuries.
