Abstract:	In 2001, China Medical University in Taiwan experimented on two new curricula, including Problem-Based Learning (hereafter, PBL) and Clinical Skill (hereafter, CS) courses. Trial CS courses were first given to 4th and 5th year medical students in 2001, and with satisfactory outcomes, CS was fully implemented as a formal curriculum for 4th and 5th year medical students of China Medical University (medical training in Taiwan has 7 years in total, clerkship and internship are 6th year and 7th year respectively). To successfully and usefully implement classroom lecture to clinical practice and to enhance medical students’ clinical diagnosis skills, the new CS course contains the following three parts: (1). Physical Examination: This is the introduction of actual physical examination skills (hereafter, PE) to medical school curriculum before clerkship and internship. Using lecture halls with audiovisual support, CS tutors are able to demonstrate videos of actual PE procedures, and afterwards, these procedures are being practiced by individual student groups under the supervision of CS tutors. Students may practice PE among each other, or by using substitutive teaching materials, such as mannequin. (2). Clinical Procedures: Students use mannequins, including whole person or individual body regions, to practice actual clinical procedures, such as IV injection, NG intubations, Endotracheal intubations, Foley Catheterizations, and Lumbar Punctures, etc. in the demonstration room. (3). Establishing Patient-student Relationship: Students pay weekly visit to each specialty in China Medical University Hospital. Under the guidance of CS tutors (who are attending physicians in each respective specialty), students practice history taking, PE, decision making, analysis of laboratory data and medical imaging, and learn to differential diagnose possible illnesses. The above three parts of CS courses are to be completed within the 4th and 5th years of medical training.
