    摘要: Abstract The rapid improvement of medical technology such as genetic engineering will make it possible that in the near future except for accidents, aging and civilization will be the only cause of human death. Dealing with issues of end of life should be focus more on old adult’s death. Life and death has been little studied in old adult (compare to late childhood or middle adulthood), however, death is less remote for them. Understanding older adult’s attitude toward life and death and expectations regarding end-of-life medicine is important for both performing end-of-life medical care and making end-of-life policy. Chinese people’s attitude of life and death can be understood through various values like Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. According to those, value of life can transcend from quality of life to quality of death. Thus, to look at life and death as a whole should be a core philosophy of modern perspective of live and death. To attempt to overcome the taboo on death conversation as well as to look at life and death as a whole, an in-depth interview was conducted to the senior public in Taiwan on their image of life, and then led them into considering the image associated with death and the expectation of their own dying process. This paper will present an analysis of the interviews, looking at key concepts they mentioned and expectations from medicine during the dying process. Also the information of their image associated to biotechnology and what they expect from that to improve life were gathered. Although most of us agree “end –of –life “issues are such a highly individualized domain, that any society, law, religion and culture couldn’t interrupt or decide it for personal individuals. Nevertheless, medical care can best achieve quality of end-of –life care in aging dying process by focusing primarily on understanding the perspectives of old adult.
